Nikolas Krankl on Rhône varieties...

I was lucky enough to grow up with Rhône varieties on the dinner table.  Iconic producers such as Alban, Beaucastel, Bonneau, Janasse, Pegau, and Saxum to name a few, made regular appearances, well before I was mature enough to fully appreciate them.

Working at Sine Qua Non coupled by a trip to Clos Saint Jean in Châteauneuf-du-Pape cemented the love affair.  That was the “Aha Moment” when a light bulb went off in my head.  The intoxicating smell of Roussanne fermenting, the hand-staining color of Syrah, the unwavering creamy texture of Grenache on your palate.

When we started Fingers Crossed there wasn’t even a question about what varieties we would use – it was obvious.  They might not be the easiest grapes to grow and vinify, but like any great partner they constantly challenge, inspire, surprise and delight us.
