As a celebration for Rhône variety enthusiasts, the Hospice du Rhône (HdR) is staged in a uniquely American way. Delegates join the event’s activities including the annual bowling tournament, barbecue lunches in Frontier Town and a farewell dinner featuring Western music and ‘Hearst Ranch naturally-fed beef from the HdR chuck wagon’. . . Hospice du Rhône Grows Up

The 15th annual Hospice du Rhône (HDR) celebrated yet another sold-out event with three days of seminars, tastings, Rhône wine-focused dinners and its signature bowling tournament. The event, held May 3-5, now in its eleventh year at the Paso Robles Fairgrounds (home of the California Mid-State Fair), drew well over 1,000 Rhône wine aficionados crowding up to winery tables to taste Syrah, Viognier, Mourvèdre and 19 other varietals and blends by vintners from France, Australia, Spain, California and, new this year, a winery from Baja California, Mexico. . . Hospice du White Rhônes

Last weekend was the 15th Annual Hospice du Rhône festival, an event that every year draws a couple of thousand people to Paso Robles to learn, drink, and to celebrate wines of (or in the style of) the Rhône Valley. This was my first year attending the event (it's usually not held at a good time of year for me, but this year I got lucky), and I was excited at the opportunity to attend an event that incorporated Rhône wines from outside of California. As regular attendees know, the French and the Australians show up loaded for bear, and it is extremely interesting to taste their wines side-by-side with some of the best California Rhône-style producers. . . Hospice du Rhône draws wine enthusiasts from across the globe

What began as a way to get the word out about the wine varietals Matt Garretson calls “cult,” because they are often limited in production and sought out by a select few, is now the largest international celebration of Rhône wines in the world. Hospice du Rhône took place on Friday and Saturday at the Paso Robles Event Center and brought out wine enthusiasts from across the globe. . . To read more please click here.
